A smaller level gap? “They are less scary”, admits Emile Ntamack
Invited this Saturday morning on the RMC Anaïs Matin show, Emile Ntamack, father of Romain and Théo Ntamack, spoke of the always cult meeting of this Saturday evening (9:10 p.m.), seeing a tightening grip: “The match is inevitably going to be very tough , very tough, very balanced, but we have our chances.”
Before Fabien Galthié's mandate (which began during the 2020 VI Nations Tournament), the French XV had not won against the All Blacks since 2007 and the quarter-final of the World Cup. But things have now changed. The Carter generation, McCaw gradually left its place… while a beautiful French generation was being built.
“They are necessarily less frightening. The domination of the All Blacks has wreaked havoc in the past, but it still remains a legendary team with players of exceptional quality. We have progressed, little by little closing the gap in level that it there was,” said Emile Ntamack.
In 2020, Fabie Galthié takes charge, building her team around executives who perform well at club and national level. Result: two confrontations against New Zealand, two victories.
The last one? During the opening match of the 2023 World Cup (27-13), but since then, the All Blacks have changed a lot. Starting with a new coach: Scott Robertson. And above all, a faultless record for a year against teams from the northern hemisphere (7/7 including two victories against Ireland and 3 against England in particular).
