In total, young Charly A. came six times between 2016 and 2020. A sinister record. The first time, he was just approaching 22 years old. “Mr. Pelicot sent me a private message on Coco.fr. He offered me a date, I said yes, described Charly blandly from the box of the Vaucluse criminal court this Friday. I feel like I’m talking to the couple. We have since known that Gisèle Pelicot was not sleeping. She was drugged by her husband. Charly A. denies the “intention” of the rapes. He nevertheless faces twenty years in prison for aggravated rape. So every question seems to freeze him. He remains stiff, his gaze fixed. The fear of saying too much paralyzes him: a few monosyllables escape from his mouth, hesitant rants that shed little light on the courtyard. You have to listen carefully to understand what the young man in a white sweater, adorned with a beard collar and a mustache, wants to say.
“At this point, I think she’s pretending.”
The first time, in 2016, Charly A. was instructed not to have smoked or to have sprayed himself with perfume beforehand. After parking in the Mazan stadium parking lot, he sent a text message: “I’m here. » On his doorstep, Dominique Pelicot waves the flash on his phone to show him the way. Once in the house, Charly undresses on the husband’s orders. He warms his hands on the radiator. If they are too cold, they risk waking the victim. “I’m completely naked, I follow Dominique Pelicot in the dark to the bedroom. The light is subdued. I see the back of a sleeping lady, lying in bed,” he describes.
Dominique Pelicot begins to work on the unconscious Gisèle Pelicot. Without this calling out to Charly. “At that moment, I think she is pretending,” continues the young man. He tells me to come, to stand aside. You have to wait until the third or fourth date for the young man to question himself. In the sixth grade, Charly finally “clicked”. He will no longer return to Mazan, disturbed by Dominique Pelicot’s suggestion to go and drug and abuse… his own mother.
This insane proposal was even discussed in action with Gisèle Pelicot. In a conversation transcribed by investigators, Dominique Pelicot returns to the charge. “This weekend, it’s not going to be possible but the weekend after, yeah,” evades the young man while giving him an address in Avignon. Dominique Pelicot gives him a few doses of Temesta in aluminum foil. He won’t use them.
And this despite the numerous SMS sent by Dominique Pelicot to Charly A., urging him to find a date for this gloomy project. The first was looking for a Gisèle bis. The second then suggested his mother “like that”, because he was “insistent”. This curious thought could find its origin in the unsaid parts of the young man’s chaotic family history. But when the court wants to delve deeper, he remains stoic, almost mute.
A porn scenario?
What remains is the detailed expertise of a psychiatrist. This notes the young lost temporary worker’s heavy consumption of pornography. “Porn conveys a normative script,” explains expert Mathieu Lacambre. The classic scenario is that of the fantasy of the Milf – “Mother I’d Like To Fuck” – who is visited by a plumber who sleeps with her. The more Charly A. consumes, the more he will want to explore further. We can assume that Dominique Pelicot actually offered Charly A. the object he saw on his screen. The ‘sleeping princess’ MILF just 30 minutes’ drive away.
The hypothesis intrigues the court. “Did you feel like you were in a pornographic movie?” » we ask Charly A. “It’s possible…” he stammers. The brevity of the answers remains inversely proportional to the length of the questions asked. Another psychological report describes him as shy, suggestible and easily influenced.
And dangerous? “It is not a sexual predator, in the sense that it is not a carnivore that hunts. He was not looking for the ideal prey,” says the expert psychiatrist. The accused, however, hides a dark side. In his room, investigators will find various sexual objects, as well as underwear belonging to his mother. “I was looking for myself,” justifies the one who assures that he took “no pleasure” in Mazan despite his six trips.
A “privileged”
On the only video – out of the 47 in which Charly A. appears – broadcast to the court, Dominique Pelicot helps the young man to perform a sexual act on the unconscious Gisèle Pelicot. The two men were in contact very often. In just a few months in 2020, they exchanged more than 200 messages. Most sent by Dominique Pelicot.
The last exchanges took place in the summer of 2020. Charly A. no longer wants to “go there again [sic] “. He is nevertheless one of the five co-accused that Dominique Pelicot chose to warn by telephone after his arrest at Leclerc in Carpentras, so that they erase their contact traces. “More like “good customers”, if I may say so,” remarks an assessor. “He was perhaps one of the privileged ones,” confirms Dominique Pelicot.
Regarding Charly A., the main accused – as usual – blows hot and cold. “I didn’t realize he was that age,” he assures. I admit that I was directive with him. But in the discussions afterwards, I didn’t feel anyone impressed, forced. »
