(Kyiv) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that “the war will end sooner” under the presidency of Donald Trump, praising his latest contacts with the Republican despite fears of a drop in support from Washington.

“It is certain that the war will end sooner with the policies of the team that will now run the White House. This is their approach, their promise to their society,” Zelensky said in an interview with Ukrainian media Suspilne.
“The war will end, but we do not know the exact date,” he however qualified.
Mr. Zelensky assured that he had a “constructive interaction” with Donald Trump during their telephone conversation after his victory in the American presidential election.
Donald Trump “heard the foundations we stand on. I haven’t heard anything that goes against our position,” he added.
Very critical of the tens of billions of dollars released for Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, Mr. Trump promised to resolve this conflict “in 24 hours”, without ever explaining how.
On Friday, he again promised to “work very hard on Russia and Ukraine”, because “this must stop”.
Ukraine fears a weakening of American support, at a time when its troops are in difficulty on the front, or that an agreement involving territorial concessions to Russia will be imposed on it.
