63 Days by Destructive Creations offers a simple observation that did not escape Riggs: “an RTS set during World War II with a graphic style reminiscent of Commandos”. Once we have said that, we say to ourselves that having one of the masters of the genre as a reference is good but it can be complicated. How will 63 Days make a difference?
Already with the characters because 63 Days will not innovate on the setting: the Second World War! The kind of choice that we have seen in a large number of titles except that here, we are going to see the part: Polish resistance. Yes, that’s a bit of a change from trained soldiers and other resourceful commandos! We have two brothers in particular: the older brother who has done his classes is more of a fighter and perfect for neutralizing with his muscles while the little brother will be more subtle and will use other means such as daggers. Our two men will start by training the resistance fighters of tomorrow before going to the front themselves. It's a good excuse to give us a tutorial but I must admit that the “hide and seek” moment was particularly frustrating. We can say “yes but it's educational… Gnin gnin gnin”, when a tutorial is frustrating, makes us start things X times… without it always being our fault… it's because something is missing a little. But if you survived the tutorial, 63 Days is now open to you.
We can say that Commandos regulars will be delighted with the puzzle of certain levels and the potential for synchronized actions. Without having as many options as Commandos or a Desperado, the game is appreciated overall. Of course, we would like our characters to stretch their fingers a little by climbing this or being able to do that… But overall, we have a nice experience.
Especially visually, 63 Days does a good job. We have detail, the voices are cool, we can zoom in/out to appreciate the places or better plan our actions. In short, serious technical work.
In summary, we can say that 63 Days, without being as good and intense as the masters of the genre, manages to hit the mark and capture our attention. Our shadow heroes therefore deserve a little light.
