A mayor of a town in southern Mexico was killed during a trip to an indigenous village and an investigation into “aggravated homicide” was opened, local authorities announced on Saturday.

The murder of Acacio Flores, mayor of Malinaltepec, comes a few days after that of another elected official from the state of Guerrero, Salvador Villalba Flores, just elected during the general elections of June 2.
