A woman died in a house fire Thursday afternoon in Bathurst.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the Bathurst Police Force and Bathurst Fire Brigade responded to a home on the parkway Rough Waters, in the eastern sector of the city.

It took several hours to bring the fire under control and evacuate the area.

A 64-year-old woman was found dead in the rubble.

The New Brunswick Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the circumstances of the tragedy.

However, the Bathurst Police Force believes this is not a suspicious fire.
