Worried and troubled, Lilo no longer has any news from Angelo. Announced dead by the Russian army since November 1, his brother is officially missing. “Bring back my brother, alive or dead“, Lilo demands. “Even today, he has not been found. I think they found other bodies, but not his.”assures the Liégeois.
Last July, Angelo, 42, flew to kyiv. Yet held back by his family, nothing and no one could prevent him from going to the front. “He’s a good guy with a good heart. A little naive, but a go-getter, he was hard-headed, he didn’t listen to anyone. My parents did everything to make sure he didn’t leave. He didn’t lack anything.”
He was manipulated
For his brother, he would have been the victim of a recruiter. “I heard that there were recruiters in Liège who recruit young people who are a bit delinquent, they promise them a salary of €5,000 per month, that’s bullshit, he was manipulated, he’s someone who brainwashed him, I’m sure. I know well that he knew a Frenchman who recruited people“, assured Lilo.
Disappeared or hidden?
Last known location: Ternopil, in western Ukraine, after an operation carried out on the ground, Angelo did not return to the camp. But without an official answer, the family remains hopeful. “It’s possible he’s a prisoner, it’s possible he’s hiding with others, because supposedly it was taken by Russians. It’s possible he’s in a hospital, seriously injured.“, believes Lilo.
The desire to go looking for him is great but impossible: “Ukraine is big, even if I wanted it, because he’s my brother, where am I going to go? It’s a war zone, even me, they’ll kill me if I go there“, fears Lilo. Only a photo or some personal effects could help them. Angelo’s family fears the worst, but continues to hope.
