Weather report. This spring, which depressed all the Normans, was it really more “rotten” than usual?

The city of Évreux recorded a record rainfall in spring 2024. But overall, Normandy recorded a drop in sunshine and rainfall rates above normal. However, temperatures are rising.

Since Friday June 21, 2024, we are in summer! We hope to quickly turn the page on this particularly rainy and dark spring of 2024, which depressed all Normans.

According to Météo France, this spring ranked 4e rank of the rainiest springs, with a sunshine deficit of almost 20% in France! But despite the rain and the lack of sun, it ended above normal for the season in terms of temperatures.

But has this spring been so “rotten” in Normandy? We take stock.

“There was abundant rainfall in the departments of Orne and Eure. In Évreux, between March 20 and June 21, 2024, there was an increase of 40%”, indicates Météo France. 215 mm were recorded compared to an average of 157. “This spring is on the 5the rank of rainy since 1975″, underlines the meteorologist. In Orne, there is 257 mm instead of the average of 191.

But contrary to perception, it is less more than average in Seine-Maritime (194 mm compared to 207 average), Calvados (209 mm instead of 221 average) and Manche (144 mm instead of 177).

These are the hours of sunshine that the Normans have really missed in this spring of 2024. In April, there are only 130 to 140 hours of sunshine, “i.e. only four to five hours per day”, according to Météo France.

In May, it is especially the Vexin and the Perche which suffer with 150 hours of sunshine. And in June, it is again the Vexin which toasts with 120 hours, like the country of Bray.

The spring of 2024 is thus among the least sunny, comparable to the springs of 2013 and 1983. Since the start of the year, only the month of January has benefited from sunshine on average close to normal.

Despite a gloomy feeling due to heavy rains and lack of sunshine, temperatures remain above normal on average over the season, with an anomaly of +0.8°C compared to 1991-2020 normals.
