Thales and Leonardo are rewarded for strengthening the link between Italy and France through space cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the Quirinal Treaty

Rome, June 21, 2024 – Hervé Derrey, Chairman and CEO of Thales Alenia Space, and his counterpart at Telespazio, Gabriele Pieralli, received yesterday, on behalf of shareholders Thales and Leonardo and in their capacity as representatives of the co-founding companies of the Space Alliance, the prestigious “ The Golden Farnese 2024” for their continued commitment to strengthening cooperation and ties between Italy and France.

The award was presented by Renato Brunetta, President of the Italian National Council for Economy and Labor (CNEL), in the presence of numerous representatives of institutions and economic and cultural spheres, on the occasion of the third edition of the “Gala – The Farnese d’Or” organized each year by the Franco-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI France Italy) at the Palazzo Farnese, headquarters of the French Embassy in Italy, with the aim of strengthening relations between the two countries.

Thales and Leonardo, through Thales Alenia Space and Telespazio, created the Space Alliance in 2005: cooperation in the space sector based on a common technological and industrial base. The two space companies stand out at European and global level for the excellence of their solutions serving a better and more sustainable life on Earth.

“We are very honored to receive this prestigious distinction which celebrates the link between France and Italy in the name of the Space Alliance, a strategic partnership between the Thales and Leonardo groups recognized worldwide for the successes of Thales Alenia Space and of Telespazio,” said Hervé Derrey, CEO of Thales Alenia Space. “This collaboration, which represents considerable value for our two countries and for Europe as a whole, is all the more strategic given the geopolitical context and current sovereignty issues. On behalf of Thales and Thales Alenia Space, we warmly thank the French Embassy in Italy and the Franco-Italian Chamber of Commerce for this very great initiative, which is of particular importance for our company. »

“It is an honor to receive the Farnese d’Or which, in addition to being recognition of the collaboration between Italy and France, the commitment of our shareholders, Leonardo and Thales, and the work of the Space Alliance represented by Telespazio and Thales Alenia Space, encourages us to continue and further develop this strategic alliance,” declared Gabriele Pieralli, CEO of Telespazio. “Italy and France are two major space nations and their cooperation is crucial to making Europe stronger, more resilient and more independent in space as well. On behalf of Leonardo and Telespazio, a big thank you to the French Embassy in Italy and the Franco-Italian Chamber of Commerce for this illustrious award. »

This year, the winners were selected for the first time by an exceptional jury composed of six eminent personalities – Monica Bellucci, Renato Brunetta, Marie-Claire Daveu, Simone Marchetti and Claudia Parzani – and chaired by an entrepreneur as eclectic as he is visionary: Santo Versace.

Founded in 2005, the Space Alliance is a strategic alliance between two large industrial groups, Leonardo and Thales.
