Bon Jovi et Pitbull team up to revisit the iconic “It’s My Life”, now renamed “Now Or Never”!
No one saw this one coming. And yet, we perhaps expected it one day: the machine of improbable collaborations strikes again. Jon Bon Jovilegendary rocker with the Colgate smile, and “Mr. Worldwide” himself, Pitbullhave absolutely nothing in common musically. But the two have just unveiled a most unexpected cover of the iconic “It's My Life”, now titled “Now Or Never”. A version that could well appeal to Gen Zalways eager for covers of reworked classics.
Here, we witness the improbable meeting of 2000s rock and reggaeton. A surprising alliance that is part of the current trend of cross-genre collaborations aimed at dusting off timeless hits to reach the generation TikTok. The goal? “Re-up, recharge, and reignite” this classic, dixit Pitbull. In other words: we take an old hit, add a reggaeton beat, and there you have it, ready for a potential return to the charts (or not).
But where does this crazy idea come from? The two artists met in 2017 at Songwriters Hall Of Fame and seem to have formed a rather unexpected friendship to arrive at this collaboration. After an improbable first duo at Hollywood Bowl in tribute to Jimmy Buffettthey did it again last September during the tour Party After Dark of Pitbull has Jones Beach, New York. It was at that moment that Jon Bon Jovi joined Pitbull on stage for a first live performance of this new version of “It's My Life”.
And what does it bring Pitbull moreover ? In addition to his legendary charisma (and his flashy ties), he adds a few punchlines of his own, like “Me, I am a man of my word, and I live it” et “Just live your life like Frank Sinatra, your way and have no fear“. In other words, it is always Bon Jovibut with a touch of Miami Vice in addition.
To top it all off, the two will perform “Now Or Never” during the Latin Grammy 2024 has Miami. A promising choice of scene: if the Florida is used to hurricanes, she was probably never prepared for this musical storm.
The remixed version will be accompanied by a music video compiling footage of their live performances and their “alchemy” on stage. In short, get ready to see Jon Bon Jovi et Pitbull side by side, and wondering if you are awake or if you are still dreaming. Because between us, who could have predicted this improbable duo? Certainly not Richie Sambora.
