It is a major project for the future of the city which was presented as a preview to the traders concerned who were able to express themselves on three points, as well as to the residents of the avenue.
As an extension of the repair work on Boulevard de l'Ayrolle which will be completed at the end of November 2024, the repair of the Rue de la Liberté/Mandarous axis then Avenue de la République is necessary given the state of dilapidation. water networks and roads.
It is scheduled in three phases from January 20 to the beginning of May 2025, in order to transform this axis which will have a modern and separating water network in depth, and a more peaceful route on the surface.
First observation: an obsolete and unseparated water network
On the real artery of the network which is Avenue de la République, the cast iron pipes, located in the center of the road and dating from 1945/1950, are in a worrying state of dilapidation, threatening significant leaks. In addition, the wastewater and rainwater networks are not separated on this axis.
Second observation: a worn and noisy roadway
In this portion of the city center, a busy artery, problems arise: the slope of the roadway which requires correction, significant noise pollution, as well as very damaged sidewalks.
Tomorrow: a modern and safe water network
At the end of the work, the axis will have a network separating drinking water, used water and rainwater with the repair of pipes over 130 meters for each of the 3 networks. 63 connections will be made from 21 buildings with optimal sealing to preserve resources and facilitate maintenance. The connection will be made to the Ayrolle networks at the court level and intervention on the Mandarous is necessary.
Tomorrow a less road and more urban roadway
In 2025 the roadway of this axis entering the city center will be completely redone as well as its parking, redesigned with the traders (see below), and its sidewalks on both sides.
Three materials will create a more urban and serene atmosphere: on the road, black sound-proofing on parking spaces near trees, permeable paving stones on sidewalks and ocher concrete as on several sites in the city center
The 3 phases of the construction site
- From January 20 to 29, 2025 : works on Boulevard de l'Ayrolle between Rue de la Liberté and Place du Mandarous
- From January 27 to February 12, 2025 : western part of Place du Mandarous
- From February 12 to May 10, 2025 : Avenue de la République between Place du Mandarous and Rue Alfred Merle on the odd side and between Place du Mandarous and Rue Jean-François Almeras on the even side.
During the work:
- 15 parking spaces are created on avenue Jean Jaurès
- Shops remain accessible to pedestrians
- The sidewalks are passable
- The affected areas are closed to traffic and parking 24 hours a day.
- Traffic and parking plans are in place for the 3 phases
- Parking, deliveries and waste collection during construction: the result of consultation with traders
Two consultation meetings, on November 12 and 13, with the traders and local residents concerned, made it possible to present the work, the schedule and images of the project, but also to reflect together on the modalities and inconveniences caused by the construction site.
Traders gave their opinion on:
- The destination of 15 additional parking spaces on Avenue Jean-Jaurès (balanced between 8 short-term paid “red” ones and 7 “blue” ones, free limited to 30 minutes)
- The choice of the location of the delivery boxes dedicated to them
- Waste collection
