The social network Snapchat is updating its parental control center and will help reassure worried parents about the position of their children.
Snapchat continues to update its Snap Map. After allowing its users to share their location with their friends, the social network is opening a new option allowing parents to check that their children have arrived at certain chosen locations.
And vice versa
To get this feature started, parents or family members will need to ask teens to share their live location. Parents will also be able to do it with their offspring.
Selected locations
Far from being designed as a continuous tracker, families will be able to choose a maximum of three specific locations on the Snap map such as home, school or a leisure space. When teenagers pass by these places, parents will receive a notification on their smartphone. Snapchat says it developed this feature to “ giving parents more peace of mind ».
Security requires, Snapchat specifies that location sharing is disabled by default and users must be friends to activate this function. In addition, the network will send reminders to its users to verify the selection of people who have access to their geolocation.
The company says this feature will be rolled out over the coming weeks.
