Significant deployment of firefighters at the start of the afternoon on rue du Fort in Marcq-en-Barœul. An explosion which was not followed by a fire broke out in an apartment in a private residence.
The firefighters specify that the victim is a man, seriously burned, who was taken to the Lille University Hospital.
According to the mayor of the town, Bernard Gérard, reached by telephone, when he arrived on the scene, the explosion was quite strong and spectacular, since part of the window frame of the apartment flew off the across the street to crash into the roof of a garage.
No preferred hypothesis at the moment on the cause of the explosion, according to the first councilor who estimates the reason for the accidental explosion. There are no other victims. The investigation will have to determine the causes of the explosion.
