To discover the two young lionesses, you will have to head to a place that you already know, in the Kingdom of Ganesha… Indeed, Amani and Lira were able to discover a space specially designed for them, in the White Tiger territoryMumbai and Sanka.
The lionesses will only occupy part of the territory and will be separated from the white tigers by a large glass wall. In this way, the two survivors will be able to settle peacefully into their new environment. Initially, the space will be shared alternately between lionesses and white tigers. But the Park hopes that, in the coming days, Amani and Lira will feel sufficiently confident to allow the gradual reintroduction of Mumbai and Sanka into their part of the territory.
Pairi Daiza also specifies that the door to the interior space of the lionesses will remain exceptionally open, so that they have the possibility of returning if they feel stressed, because of their new environment, the world, etc. The goal is that the two lionesses can acclimatize to this place in a gentle manner, at their own pace and without pressure.
“The signs of adaptation of lionesses are encouraging”explains Puria Mahlouji, zoological director at Pairi Daiza. “They appear more and more calm and peaceful, showing every day their resilience and their ability to adapt. However, they remain very sensitive to unusual or noisy sounds, a reminder of the traumas they have gone through. why we move forward with patience and kindness to avoid rushing them.”
As a reminder, Amani and Lira will not stay in Pairi Daiza for very long. Indeed, in the months to come, they will return to their final residence, Big Cat Sanctuaryin England. There, a habitat is specially designed for them. It was while waiting for this to be completed that the Jardin des Mondes agreed to welcome them, committing to offering them a peaceful and caring transitional environment, which fully meets their physical and emotional needs. In England, they will have a beautiful, peaceful life, far from the horror and trauma of their past.
