The 2021 floods in figures

The figures for the consequences of these floods are known. And they send shivers down your spine:

– 39 victims.

– 45,000 to 50,000 buildings damaged, to varying degrees.

– Around 100,000 people affected.

– More than 10,000 vehicles destroyed.

– 559 regional and municipal bridges impacted following the floods (including 45 taken out of service following the disaster).

– 28 regional roads closed or with traffic restrictions following the disaster.

– The total damage, all entities combined (Region, SPGE, etc.), amounts to 5.282 billion euros.

– More than 65,000 files filed with insurance companies as of April 30, 2022 (65,633 exactly).

– In the aftermath of the floods: 15,000 homes without gas, 127,000 without internet, 66,500 without electricity, 47,000 without water.

– 3,500 meals distributed per day (on average) via the regional market since the start of the crisis nearly 1,400,000 million meals, all types combined, have been distributed in total (Red Cross support + Regional market) .

– Area of ​​the flooded area on July 14, 15, 16, 2021: nearly 10,000 ha (9,670 precisely), the equivalent of the territories of the cities of Liège and Verviers.

Treatment of waste generated by floods

– From the A601: 86,265 tonnes evacuated. Everything was sorted and processed: 75% in materials recovery and 25% in energy recovery (incinerator).

– From the depot “Loiseau” in Engis, 36,150 tonnes evacuated. All of it was sorted and processed: 75% in materials recovery and 25% in energy recovery (incinerator).
