New oil drilling projects threaten sources which supply 180,000 Ile-de-France residents with drinking water in Nonville in Seine-et-Marne. NON to these projects and OUI to protect our water resources.
By authorizing two new oil drilling sites and the extension of the Bridge Energies concession in Nonville (Seine-et-Marne), the government is sending a very negative signal for the environment. The Nonville drilling project, in addition to its contribution to France's greenhouse gas emissions, poses a serious threat to the water supply of Paris and municipalities in Seine-et-Marne. It threatens the drinking water catchments of Villeron and Villemer, which supply 180,000 Parisians and Seine-et-Marnais. Several accidents in the past have already occurred on the Nonville site, leading to fears for the worst. Pollution of the Lunain, a river classified Natura 2000 located near future drilling, would be dramatic for biodiversity and water quality, the latter already threatened by global warming.
Described as “ potential ecological disaster » by the President of Eau de Paris Dan Lert, the extension of Nonville oil drilling embodies in the 77 a dangerous and aberrant policy prioritizing private interests in defiance of:
– water quality
– the will and health of local residents
– biodiversity
– respect for the Paris Agreements
