The Ilan Halimi Prize was officially launched on November 12 by Othman Nasrou, Secretary of State for Citizenship and the Fight against Discrimination, in the presence of the Interministerial Directorate for the Fight against Racism, Anti-Semitism and Hatred anti-LGBT (DILCRAH) and several partners, committed to the fight against racism and anti-Semitism. An Ilan Halimi Grand Prize and three distinctions will reward the winners. The Ilan Halimi Prize will be awarded by the Prime Minister in February 2025.
The Ilan Halimi Prize was created in 2018 by DILCRAH as part of the National Plan to Combat Racism and Anti-Semitism. This prize highlights the commitment of young people against ignorance and stereotypes.
It bears the name of Ilan Halimi, this young Frenchman kidnapped, sequestered and tortured because he was Jewish, a victim of anti-Semitic hatred.
The prize aims to promote the mobilization of youth against hateful acts and speech through very concrete field projects. This action may, for example, fall within the cultural, sporting, digital or public intervention fields. The jury is made up of personalities independent of DILCRAH.
This prize aims to reward those who mobilize and who, through their creativity and inventiveness, commit to reducing prejudices.
Applications must be submitted before December 31, 2024 and the finalists will be invited to Paris in February 2024 for an oral presentation of their action in front of the jury and other qualified candidates.
Who can apply?
The Ilan Halimi Prize rewards groups of young people under 25 who carry out awareness projects in order to reduce racist and anti-Semitic prejudices. This year, a student prize is being created.
What types of projects are expected?
Since its first edition, the DILCRAH has received numerous applications in the school, university or associative context, in the fields of sport, culture or history, for the production of podcasts, films, books, exhibitions, live shows, for collecting testimonies or researching archives, etc.
It is a veritable proliferation of initiatives which testify to the vitality of young people when it comes to carrying out concrete projects promoting fraternity, respect for otherness, solidarity and openness to others.
