The decentralized social network has experienced unprecedented growth since the announcement of the results of the US presidential election.
An exodus. This is how we could summarize the last few weeks in the small world of so-called “microblogging” social networks. Twitter, which has become While its CEO is now promised a ministerial post in the future government of Donald Trump, and the network proudly displays unconditional support for the conservative ideas of the 47th American President, many are fleeing to clearer skies.

Bluesky reaches an important milestone
Bluesky is a sort of clone of the Twitter of yesteryear, on which millions of users seem to have found refuge. The network, first launched in beta in the summer of 2023, has just crossed the impressive milestone of 15 million users.
According to The Verge, Bluesky gained nearly a million subscribers the week of the American election results. The parallel is in fact quite simple to draw: the vast majority of them come from the United States.
Bluesky is increasingly presenting itself as the preferred alternative for people wishing to find Twitter before it becomes X. We had already had a glaring example of this when the latter was temporarily banned in Brazil, due to lack of sufficient moderation. More than a million users then rushed to the blue-sky network.
Still a long way to go
Another particularly strong signal: Bluesky is currently the most downloaded application on the iPhone App Store in the United States, surpassing its competitor Threads (launched by Meta last year) and even ChatGPT. X doesn’t even make it into the top 20.
It remains to be seen whether the decentralized platform will manage to maintain its momentum and not alienate Internet users already frustrated at having to leave behind sometimes a decade of tweets and online conversations. In terms of moderation, Bluesky already offers its users a variety of tools to nip toxicity and cyberharassment in the bud, notably with the possibility of deleting posts in which we are quoted.
In recent weeks, there has been a rumor that Elon Musk wants to merge X with Truth Social, the social network founded by Donald Trump.
