Brazil’s Supreme Court was evacuated after two explosions occurred outside the building on Wednesday, killing one person, police and witnesses said.

The judges were evacuated safely, the Supreme Court said in a statement.

The first explosion occurred in a parking lot adjacent to the building. Footage broadcast by a local television station showed the explosion occurred in the trunk of a car.

The second explosion occurred in a park opposite the Supreme Court building, where the body of a man, killed in the blast, was found. The links that may exist between this man and the second explosion remain unknown for the moment.

Police searched the area to determine if there were any other explosive devices. Brazil’s attorney general denounced an “attack” on social networks.

According to local media UOL, a man was seen near the entrance to the building with explosives.

The two explosions occurred 20 seconds apart, according to local media.
