Seen on a Danish shopping site, the Asus ROG Phone 9 could be more expensive than its predecessor. Is the fault of the expensive Snapdragon 8 Elite?
Asus launches its ROG Phone 9 this November 19. If we already know a lot about the design and technical characteristics of the smartphone, the brand has not yet communicated its price. A Danish reseller has apparently spilled the beans by publishing a product page dedicated to the device, without photos or specs, but with the memory configuration and price.
The Asus ROG Phone 9 with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space is sold there for 9,838 Danish crowns, the equivalent of 1 320 euros. The manufacturer could therefore increase its prices on this new generation. The ROG Phone 8 was indeed sold for 1,099 euros, but with only 256 GB of storage. To upgrade to 512 GB of storage, you had to opt for the ROG Phone 8 Pro, available at 1,199 euros.
A ROG Phone 9 which promises to be overpowering
Either the Danish site was wrong and it is the ROG Phone 9 Pro, or Asus has increased the storage of the basic version of the smartphone to 512 GB. In both cases, the price increase seems real, even whether you have to wait for the brand’s official announcement to know the exact prices charged in France.
We got hands-on with the ROG Phone 9 during Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit. The smartphone is one of the first to feature the highly anticipated Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and its new Oryon CPU cores, which shows impressive results in the first benchmarks. The more expensive SoC is certainly one of the reasons for the higher price of the ROG Phone 9.
According to our observations, the design of the ROG Phone 9 is very close to that of the ROG Phone 8, but a little more discreet, Asus wanting to appeal to a target other than gamers. However, the markings and LEDs on the back are still present. The display will be entitled to improvements. Activated, Game mode will allow the ROG Phone 9 screen to switch to a refresh rate of up to 185 Hz, compared to 165 Hz until now. Of course, not all games will be compatible with such fluidity.
