Wednesday was a busy day for the Friborg emergency services and very dark for three motorists, several passengers and their loved ones.

It was at 11 a.m., on an alpine road to Lac Noir, that a first accident occurred. A driver, aged 91 and accompanied by an 88-year-old man, rolled down an embankment from an alpine road. If his vehicle stopped a hundred meters below, the injured nonagenarian had to be airlifted to hospital. His passenger also had to be hospitalized.

Hit-and-run and loss of control

Later, around 4 p.m., it was near Châbles, more precisely at Crottes de Cheyres, that a 66-year-old scooter rider was hit by a car registered in France. Its driver, a 26-year-old man, fled before being arrested in Yvonand by a Vaud police patrol. According to the first elements of the investigation transmitted by the Friborg cantonal police, the alleged culprit was traveling “probably under the influence of alcohol and drugs” and was subject to a license withdrawal since 2022. His victim was she was airlifted to a hospital.

The black series does not end there. At 11:30 p.m., an accident also occurred in Moléson-sur-Gruyères, shortly before the entrance to the station. According to the officers dispatched to the scene, an 18-year-old motorist lost control of her vehicle in a bend between Pringy and the Moléson station. Result: the car ended up on its side. She and her rear passenger, aged 19, were taken to hospital by ambulance. His front passenger had to be airlifted. Only one other person, sitting in the back, was not injured.

To determine the exact causes of these accidents, investigations have been opened.
