The 27-year-old victim was discovered in his burning vehicle, in the parking lot of a residence in Pau. Neighbors tried to help him but without success.
A 27-year-old man died after being burned alive in Pau on Sunday evening, we learned Le Figaro with the public prosecutor's office of the city of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, confirming information from France Blue . The man was in his car when passers-by saw him dying around 10 p.m. They tried to help him by helping him out of the vehicle and dousing him with water, to no avail. A murder investigation was opened and entrusted to the Pau judicial police.
“I’m not sleeping”
Suicide? Settling scores? For the moment, no theory is favored by the investigators and the prosecution. “All avenues remain open”indicates Rodolphe Jarry, prosecutor of the Pau court. Investigations, including the autopsy of the deceased, are underway, and will have to shed light on what happened to the victim.
As for the neighbors, it's a shock. The tragedy took place in the parking lot of a residence located in a neighborhood “known to be very calm”a resident tells us. “One of my relatives heard the neighbor screaming. He left and found this gentleman on the ground completely burned“, he explains. “When I came down I saw it, it was horrible… You don’t even wish it on your worst enemy”he says, specifying that he now has difficulty falling asleep. “I can't sleep, I can't do it. As soon as it gets dark I get anxious.”
No cameras
The man who has always lived in the building wonders what could have led the victim to park here, she who is not from the residence and who was therefore in a designated space. Furthermore, the resident raises another problem, the absence of a surveillance camera. “It’s the only place in the neighborhood where there aren’t any, even though we asked for them a long time ago”he insists.
This Wednesday, neighbors are still wondering what circumstances could have led to this tragedy which took place in front of their home. According to information relayed by France Bleu, it was a money dispute. “Samir (the victim, Editor's note) was ambushed, he owed money, 15,000 euros. a member of the victim’s family told our colleagues.
