Over the decades, it had become a landmark for Saint-Tropez families. Now, only memories remain of the old casino-shop located on rue Allard in Saint-Tropez.
In recent months, one of the last local businesses in the village has closed its doors for good, to the great dismay of residents of the city center. During the last municipal council, the future of this premises was discussed. Christine Blanc, an elected official from the opposition, asked for clarification on the municipality's position regarding this property.
“During a previous council in September 2023, a deliberation on the definition of a new perimeter for safeguarding commerce and crafts was adoptedshe situates. Within this perimeter, the municipality benefits from a right of commercial pre-emption whose main purpose is to oppose the disappearance of local businesses open all year round.”
Soon a clothing store?
After a short contextualization, the advisor directly questioned the mayor about the current procedures.
“Has the town hall been concerned and positioned itself for the pre-emption of this commercial fund or will it allow yet another clothing store to set up, thus making one of the main shopping streets practically single-commerce? What future for our two other mini-markets, located respectively on the Place des Lices and on the Rue des Merchants?” she probes.
Faced with multiple questions, Sylvie Siri clarified the situation: “I share your concern because it concerns the commercial fabric but also the quality of life of our residents.. Unfortunately, the legal conditions allowing pre-emption were not met for this file. “The first magistrate tried to reassure her opponent regarding the future of the two other stores cited in her question.
“We remain extremely vigilant to maintain a diversified and accessible food offering all year round. To date, we have not received any reports suggesting the closure of the other two convenience stores. We also met with the people concerned to monitor developments and react to potential threats. “
