Session on Tuesday

But it was towards table tennis that Eric, diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2017, turned when he looked for a club capable of welcoming him. “I am retired and as I have more time, I would like to practice a sporting activity which will allow me to delay certain effects of the illness,” he explains. He started by watching videos on the Internet, to fully understand the mind of Ping Parkinson.

“Until then, I must admit that ping-pong was more of a distraction, a game with the children,” Eric does not hide, under the amused gaze of Mickaël Garispe, the club coach. After taking advice from Parkinson (read elsewhere), the sixty-year-old pushed open the door of ALTT Lescar.

“The repetition of gestures and the work of concentration should make it possible to fight against disorders. »

After several discussions with President Michel Piters, educators and the City, the Ping Parkinson section has just been created. “It seemed to us to be in line with what we have always done,” believes the founder of the association born in 1981. Mayor Valérie Revel, also a doctor at the hospital, also disseminates the information in the blouse community. white. Within a 20 km radius, all doctors, neurologists, physiotherapists and other health professionals have received an informative letter about the section.

The ALTT Lescar is now ready to welcome the first players who will meet for a 1h30 slot on Tuesday afternoon. The organizers are aiming for a workforce of six to eight people to start.

With – by his own admission – his “Camping des flots bleus” level, Eric does not intend to become a champion but hopes to “sweat, exert myself to fight against the slowness, the stiffness of this body which is becoming rigid”. “I will adapt,” warns Mickaël Garispe, “because I know that the levels will necessarily be different, depending on the person, their condition… But the repetition of gestures, the movements, the work of precision and concentration must make it possible to fight against the troubles. » The coach who has already obtained one of the two training modules in adapted sport will take the second this year.

Fight against isolation

This activity must also be the pretext for sick people to go out. Everyone hopes to create a group spirit. “This is also why the City supports this initiative, because it promotes social bonds and fights against isolation. Here, players will talk about something other than illness. This social bond must be developed,” insists elected official Fabien Ceresuela, who made the municipality’s means of communication available to launch the section.

Caregivers and companions of people with Parkinson’s disease are also invited to participate in the activity. “It is a recommendation from France Parkinson who noted that, for certain patients, this presence was essential,” explains Eric.

Everyone plans to take advantage of the enthusiasm for sport in general born following the Olympic and Paralympic Games – which saw thirty new players arrive at the club at the start of the school year – to launch this new section. “Especially since Lescar was chosen to host the sports and sharing day on March 12, organized by the departmental adapted sports committee, the Department, the City, the departmental Olympic committee and the disabled sports federations. This event must break down barriers,” the sports assistant hopes.

To join, you must contact coach Mickaël Garispe on 06 25 17 47 44. The sessions will take place on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. (outside school holidays) at the municipal stadium, rue du Lieutenant de Vaisseau Garnuchot, in Lescar. More information on [email protected]
