Socayna’s mother, killed by a stray bullet in Marseille, warns of insecurity

Layla, Socayna’s mother who died in September 2023 after being hit by a stray bullet in Marseille, testified this Tuesday, June 18 on BFMTV and alerted legislative candidates about insecurity.

Nine months after Socayna’s death, Layla’s emotions are still very strong. This mother lost her daughter in September 2023 after being hit by a stray bullet while she was in her apartment in the Saint-Thys city in Marseille.

“Socayna is a lively girl, full of joy. She was very cultured, she worked a lot, she read a lot of books (…) She was everything for us”, remembers Layla this Tuesday June 18 on the set of BFMTV.

With a lot of emotion, the mother recounts how this day turned into a tragedy. While she thought she heard firecrackers, it was in fact Kalashnikov shots which hit the building and went so far as to pierce a plywood wall located under a window of the apartment.

“There is no more security”

It was another of his daughters who, on going to Socayna’s room, made the macabre discovery. “I heard screams, my daughter screamed. I went to look and I found my daughter in a pool of blood,” Layla said, in tears. Initially brain dead, the young woman finally died in hospital.

“I say to myself ‘what did we do?’, why did my daughter leave, she left too soon,” she continues on the BFMTV set. “It was a minor who killed my daughter.” This young man, aged 16, was arrested on February 12 as part of the investigation into the death of Socayna.

“There is no longer security, I no longer have confidence,” laments the mother of the family in the face of the candidates for the legislative elections present on the BFMTV set: Aurore Bergé (presidential majority, 10th constituency of Yveline), Jean- Philippe Tanguy (National Rally, 4th constituency of the Somme) and Fabien Roussel (Communist Party, 20th constituency of the North).

“Minors who find themselves with Kalashnikovs, who enter the neighborhoods and burst left and right. I don’t understand (…) Before, it was between them, we did nothing,” adds Layla.
