Traffic on national roads is paralyzed. The consequences are multiple: delays, avoidance traffic in villages, annoyance, frustration and, last but not least, environmental pollution. Three good reasons for the SSE to recommend a yes to PRODES on November 24, 2024.

1) Less traffic jams = more safety and less bypass traffic

48,000 hours of traffic jams is way too many. Men and goods stagnate on the highways, and bypass traffic accumulates in neighboring communities. On the other hand, if traffic is fluid on national roads, vehicles concentrate there and bypass traffic disappears. Removing bottlenecks therefore provides greater safety for all users and improves the quality of life of local residents. Children can go to school in complete safety, cyclists have more space, and the elderly and people with reduced mobility find themselves less stressed.

2) The winning bet of combined mobility

For mobility to meet our needs, we must be able to have sufficient infrastructure in good condition, whether rail or road. National roads – which concentrate 45% of passenger traffic and 73% of goods traffic on only 2.7% of the total surface area of the Swiss road network – constitute a very efficient network. However, our highways date from the 1960s and were designed for 6 million people. However, Switzerland today has more than 9 million inhabitants. It's a whole different paradigm. To prepare it for the future, we must develop our national road network as quickly as possible with targeted investments.

3) Financing assured

So that the national road network can continue to fulfill its functions of load shedding, connection, security and regrouping, it is urgent to invest in its development. The approximately 5.3 billion francs necessary for this investment are already assured. In other words: no additional burden for taxpayers. Indeed, the maintenance and development costs of the national road network are covered by the Fund for national roads and urban traffic, which is financed by resources from the vignette and the tax on mineral oils. .

If you want safe and forward-looking traffic, say yes on November 24 to the elimination of bottlenecks from the entire Swiss motorway network.
