After crossing Martinique the day beforethe Olympic flame was in the Alpes-Maritimes on June 18, 2024. Nathalie Lesdema was the captain of the relay which carried the legendary torch in the department for this journey across France where 10,000 people follow one another to lead the Olympic flame to the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on July 26, 2024.

While the relay began on May 8 in Marseillerelive it passage of the Olympic flame in the Alpes-Maritimes from the bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer until its arrival in Nice, a stopover city, the last of the day. France Bleu invites you to find the best moments in photos and videos throughout this day.

The Olympic flame in the Alpes-Maritimes

Among the different torch bearers on the Côte d’Azur, athletes and personalities, including the freediver Alice Modolo, the footballer Megan Rapinoe, the actress Halle Berry, the boss of the Cannes Film Festival Thierry Frémaux, the snowboard cross champion Sousa-Mabileau, the Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc, Prince Albert of Monaco, the swimmer Alain Bernard, the judoka Loïc Piétri and the former 400m hurdles specialist Stéphane Diagana.

Nice

The journey of the Olympic torch in the Alpes-Maritimes ends in style on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, with the lighting of the Olympic cauldron in the early evening on the Quai desUnis by athlete Stéphane Diagana.

La Colmiane – Valdeblore

After freediving in the Mediterranean, ziplining in the Mercantour! The Olympic flame traveled more than 2,600 m downhill at more than 120 km/h on the largest zip line in France in La Colmiane, led by the world judo champion, Loïc Piétri from Nice.

Antibes – Juan-les-Pins

Quadruple Olympic swimming champion Alain Bernard carried the Olympic flame on the ramparts of Antibes.

Monaco

A detour through the principality of Monaco, with Monegasque F1 champion Charles Leclerc, first torchbearer at home. Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco also carried the Olympic flame past the palace.

Valberg

After the Croisette, the torch took a detour through the mountains to Valberg, with Julia Pereira de Sousa-Mabileau, Olympic snowboard cross vice-champion.

Cannes

The Olympic flame passed through Cannes at midday. It is the only town which has seen two passing of the torch on the steps of the Palais des Festivals during the cinema fortnight, last May, and again this Tuesday. Among the bearers of the day, the footballer and Women’s Golden Ball Megan Rapinoe, the American actress Halle Berry and the boss of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Frémaux.

Oily

In Grasse, the relay left from Place Honoré-Cresp to reach the Louis-Perdigon stadium.

Villefranche sur mer

French freediving champion Alice Modolo, the first French woman to reach the 100 meter mark and currently vice-world champion, went to retrieve the Olympic flame 40 meters underwater in the Mediterranean before reaching the port of Villefranche- sur-Mer aboard a pointy, to mark the start of the first Olympic torch relay in the Alpes-Maritimes.
