OTTAWA, ON, the 11 nov. 2024 /CNW/ – The Board of Directors of the Association of Industrial Gas Consumers (ACIG) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jacob Irving to the position of President, effective November 11, 2024. Mr. Irving will occupy this position, following the retirement of Shahrzad Rahbarwhose leadership and dedication have shaped ACIG for 12 years. At a recent board meeting, ACIG directors expressed their gratitude to Mme Rahbar for his remarkable contributions and praised Mr. Irving’s vision for the future.
Mr. Irving brings a wealth of experience, with more than two decades of leadership roles in the oil and power industries. He has successfully led some of the most important energy sector associations in the Canadanotably the Oilsands Developers Groupthe Canadian Hydropower Association and more recently, the Energy Council of Canada. Originally from the Huron and Franco-Ontarian community of PenetanguisheneMr. Irving’s journey, from his studies in French-speaking schools to an international career, reflects his commitment to Canadian energy and his desire to have a positive impact.
As ACIG’s new President, Mr. Irving will lead a team of professionals dedicated to supporting a reliable and competitive natural gas supply. This will be essential to maintaining the competitiveness of the industry, while supporting decarbonization efforts. Recognizing the critical role that large energy consumers play in supporting the economic strength of the CanadaMr. Irving will focus on finding energy solutions that power Canadian industry and support thousands of jobs across the country. His extensive experience in Canadian energy policy, regulation and stakeholder engagement will serve him well as he represents the interests of ACIG members at the provincial and federal levels.
Mr. Irving is a strong advocate and promoter of all forms of Canadian energy and has championed the country’s products, services and expertise nationally and internationally. Its commitment aligns perfectly with the work of IGUA members on energy security, which promotes the continued and enviable strength of the Canada in this essential area of growth and sustainable development.
The ACIG Board of Directors warmly thanks Shahrzad Rahbar for his impactful leadership, which helped build ACIG’s reputation as a credible and influential association in the energy sector. Under his leadership, ACIG continued to thrive with an experienced and committed management team.
