Controversy surrounding the 2024 Ballon d’Or resurfaced on Monday following comments from Rodri, the award winner. The Manchester City midfielder said he would rank Real Madrid’s Brazilian Vinícius Júnior third if he had a vote in the selection process.
In an interview with Radio Cope, Rodri formulated his hypothetical podium when asked who he would vote for if he was among the journalists involved in the vote. The Spanish international moved into first position, leaving Vini Jr. in third place. “Maybe I would put Carvajal second, and then Vinícius,” Rodri mentioned.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or has sparked significant debate within the football community. Many believed that Vini Jr. was the clear favorite, being highlighted by international media as the contender for the award. However, on the day of the gala, Real Madrid learned that Rodri would be the winner and subsequently withdrew their players, including the Brazilian, from the event.
