Shilei Du, 36, was charged Monday with the first-degree murder of Guangmei Ye.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed having arrested the suspect on Sunday.
Still according to court documents, the crime was committed “on or around November 7”, or three days before the suspect's arrest.
The investigation is being conducted by the SQ’s Crimes Against Persons Division.
The case is expected to return to court on November 19.
This would be the 24th femicide to occur in Quebec since the start of the year.
Released pending trial
The suspect was arrested on September 8 for making death threats. According to the indictment, the threats were made in a domestic context.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on October 15 while awaiting trial. He was prohibited from possessing a weapon.
He appeared at the Longueuil courthouse on November 6, a few hours before the victim's death. The case was scheduled to be heard on December 20.
