Death of the great director Érik Canuel

It is with infinite sadness that we announce the death of the great director Érik Canuel which occurred this Saturday, June 15, 2024

It was with exceptional courage that he fought multiple myeloma for more than 7 years and it was a dazzling secondary plasma cell leukemia that took him away.

He leaves to mourn his partner and faithful accomplice, Julie, his children, Elodie, L’ami.e and Justine, his brother Nicolas (Geneviève), Elliott and Flavie, as well as his mother, Lucile.

In addition to his loved ones, the entire Quebec cinema family is in mourning. In addition to his immense talent, how can we not emphasize the great passion and audacity of this exceptional filmmaker. His cinematographic works have made Quebec cinema shine with their unique signature, which we think of La Loi du Cochon, Nez Rouge, Le Survenant, Le Dernier Tunnel, without forgetting of course Bon Cop Bad Cop, the most lucrative film of the cinematic history of Canada.

His television career has been equally impressive – Transplant, Ransom, Flashpoint, The Hunger, to name just a few productions. He was one of the first directors based in Quebec to shoot both in English (Disney, Showtime, NBC with Christopher Plummer, Paul Sorvino, Kenneth Walsh and Colm Feore), and in French, with among others Michel Côté, Jean Lapointe and Patrick Loon.

A ceremony will be held in his honor soon to pay him a final tribute. Details will follow.
