A November 11th placed under the sign of Franco-British friendship. This Monday, on the occasion of the 1918 Armistice commemorations, Emmanuel Macron will be accompanied by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The day will be both “traditional and special”, the Élysée told the press. “Traditional”, because for more than 100 years France has paid tribute to its dead from the First World War. And “special”, because “placed under the sign of Franco-British friendship”, while we are celebrating the 120th anniversary of the Entente Cordiale and 80 years ago, Winston Churchill rekindled the soldier’s flame unknown with General de Gaulle on November 11, 1944.

The day will begin with a meeting between the President of the Republic and the British Prime Minister at the Élysée, then the two men will head to the Georges Clemenceau statue on the Champs-Élysées, then to that of Winston Churchill, located on the avenue of the same name between the Grand and the Petit Palais. They will lay wreaths there before going to Place de l’Etoile for a traditional ceremony at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe.
President Macron will lay a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, rekindle the Flame and greet veterans and families of soldiers who died for France. The French Army Choir will play the Marseillaise, preceded by the English anthem, “God Save The King” by the British fanfare The Band and the Bugles of the Rifles.
