the Paris police chief announced Sunday that 4,000 police officers and gendarmes will be deployed Thursday evening at the Stade de France to secure the France-Israel match, a week after the attack on Maccabi Tel-Aviv supporters in Amsterdam.

“There is a context, tensions, which mean that this match will be high risk for us“, declared the Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñezon the BFMTV channel, adding that the authorities would not tolerate “no overflow“.
Mr. Nuñez indicated that 2,500 police officers would be deployed around the Stade de France, in Saint-Denis, in addition to 1,500 others in Paris and on public transport.
“There will be an anti-terrorism security perimeter around the stadium“, declared the boss of the Parisian police officers.
Security checks will be reinforced, he added, in particular through drastic searches.
Mr. Nuñez indicated that French organizers were in contact with Israeli authorities and security forces to prepare for the match.
In a statement, the National Security Council of the Jewish state warned its citizens abroad against participating in sporting and cultural events, in particular the match in Saint-Denis and against attacks “under the cover of demonstrations“.
Anti-Semitic violence in Amsterdam
A video circulating online Thursday before the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv match showed a crowd of Israeli fans chanting anti-Arab insults on their way to the stadium.
Then, youths on scooters and on foot chased Israeli supporters, punching and kicking them in attacks apparently inspired by the calls made on social media.
Five people were treated in hospital and dozens were arrested after the attacks, which were condemned as anti-Semitic by authorities in Amsterdam, Israel and across Europe.
Dutch police on Sunday arrested several people for taking part in a protest in central Amsterdam that had been banned following violence targeting Israeli supporters, a local broadcaster reported.
The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleauconfirmed that the France-Israel match would take place as planned.
“I think that, for a symbolic reason, we must not give in, we must not give up.”he said, noting that sports fans around the world had gathered for the Paris Olympics this year to celebrate the “universal values” you sport.
