The fire which broke out this Monday, November 11 in the morning near Pic Malaoui in Dumbéa was on the verge of being extinguished at noon, our team noted on site.
The major forest fire which broke out this Monday morning near the Malaoui peak (or gendarme’s hat) on the Dumbéa side, should soon be brought under control, our team on site noted at midday. An improvement due largely to the appearance of rain, which largely attenuated the power of the flames.
The development is timely, as the fire could not be dealt with effectively, with the territory’s only available helicopter remaining dedicated to possible fires in the north. According to our information, the fire was started by a lost hiker in order to report himself.
Once threatened, the dwellings of the so-called “dam” squat were finally able to be preserved. The hikers who had started on the trail were reminded by the site guard. In the absence of human issues, the fire was quickly left to “evolve freely”.
