Trois-Rivières honors its soldiers of yesterday and today

The Remembrance Day ceremony took place Sunday morning in Trois-Rivières. Around a hundred people were present to participate in this moment of collective contemplation.

The ceremony began with a military parade through the streets of the city center, starting at the Trois-Rivières Military Museum.

The participants then gathered in front of the Monument des Braves, where white crosses were planted in memory of the soldiers who perished at the front.

In the crowd, many wanted to honor the fighters who risk their lives in international missions.

Others who have embraced military life wanted to be present.

Being in the military is still a great career, but it’s very demandingexpresses deputy commander Pascal Croteau of the 12th Armored Regiment of Canada. It takes a lot of resilience for families, with a lot of moving and a lot of absences.

On the other hand, on a professional level, it’s very rewarding to serve an organization that was there before you and will be there after you, something bigger than yourself.

Between 2007 and 2011, he served in two missions in Afghanistan. In total, he had to be absent for 18 months.

It takes a lot of courage when we are in the mission, but we are in a team, we are trained for that, whereas when we return home, getting back into a family routine is still very demanding.believes the one who shares his life with a soldier.

This soldier is Julie Légaré. She recognizes that it takes a lot of adaptation to combine this professional life with family life.

It requires parents who are strong, who are aware of the needs of their children.

The two children of Julie Légaré and Pascal Croteau also participated in the ceremony. Despite all the sacrifices they have to go through, it is the pride that could be read in the look, placed on their parents, of Eliot and Maxime, Sunday morning.
