After the night of violence that occurred last Thursday in Amsterdam (Netherlands) on the sidelines of the match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel-Aviv, the Israeli authorities called, this Sunday, on supporters of the Hebrew State not to go to Paris. Thursday, November 14, the France-Israel match will take place at the Stade de France.
The meeting is considered ‘high risk’. A significant security system must therefore be deployed. The Paris police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, indicated that he was mobilizing 4,000 police officers and gendarmes around the stadium and in the capital. The Raid elites will also be called in to provide reinforcements to ensure the security of the Israel team.
Reinforced controls
“We will not tolerate any excesses or disturbances to public order”declared the police prefect, adding that controls to enter the stadium would be “extremely reinforced” but that the police did not have “requested that there be a limited gauge” in the stadium for this Nations League meeting.
Only a quarter of the tickets have so far been sold, or around 20,000 out of a total capacity of 80,000 places, indicated the French Football Federation (FFF).
Demonstration the day before
Alongside calls to avoid the meeting, a demonstration against anti-Semitism was announced this Sunday. Organized by a classy right-wing pro-Israeli group, the rally is planned for Wednesday in Paris, the day before the meeting.
Emmanuel Macron present at the match
For his part, Emmanuel Macron let him know that he will attend the match. According to those close to the President of the Republic, contacted by AFP, he wishes “send a message of fraternity and solidarity after the intolerable anti-Semitic acts which followed the match in Amsterdam this week”.
