An Israeli strike also targeted a house in the “al-Lakkis neighborhood” in Baalbeck, the main city in eastern Lebanon, the Lebanese National Information Agency (Ani) reported. During the night and into the morning on Sunday, Israel carried out a series of airstrikes on villages and localities in southern and eastern Lebanon, where the Hezbollah movement, against which Israel is at war, is well established, added Ani.
Rescue workers killed
Three rescuers from the Islamic Health Committee, affiliated with Hezbollah, were killed in an Israeli strike on their center in the coastal town of Adloun, according to the ministry.
On Saturday, Israeli strikes killed at least 20 people in the east and 13 in the south, including seven rescue workers affiliated with Hezbollah and its Shiite ally Amal, according to Health Ministry figures.
Hezbollah has been firing projectiles into Israeli territory since October 8, 2023, the day after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, in support of the Palestinian Islamist movement. Since September 23, the Israeli army has been carrying out a campaign of intense strikes in Lebanon, and since September 30 a ground offensive in the south of the country.
2,700 Lebanese killed
Israel says it wants to neutralize Hezbollah in the border regions of southern Lebanon to allow the return home of 60,000 inhabitants of the north of its territory displaced by the fire of the Lebanese Islamist movement.
The Israeli army has repeatedly targeted residential buildings which, according to Lebanese media, sometimes house people linked to Hezbollah.
