FIn October, Defense announced that it would make a decompression period, called “adaptation airlock”, compulsory for all military personnel returning from a mission abroad.
The first experiment involved a group of 96 military personnel who had been on a NATO mission in Romania over the past six months, VRTNWS reports. They spent the last days of their mission, from last Friday until today, in a hotel in the German spa town of Bad Wildungen, not far from Kassel. The stay includes relaxation activities, but also group and individual interviews with Defense professionals in psychosocial support.
An incident
However, the decompression stay was disrupted on the second day. “At the end of the second day, a “discussion” took place between several soldiers in their hotel room,” Defense said in a press release. “During this “discussion”, one of the soldiers injured his hand by bumping into a mirror. The soldier was taken to hospital for treatment of his hand. It is not a fight (VRTNWS reports that some soldiers came to blows, Editor’s note) nor an altercation of this type, but a soldier who injured his hand during a “discussion” and which was immediately taken care of. »
It was also reported that alcohol had been consumed, which is prohibited, the Defense said. This is investigating the circumstances of the incident. The rest of the military group continues the adaptation airlock program and will return home as planned today. Defense has not yet specified whether there will be sanctions for the soldiers involved.
