Near Rennes, a fire breaks out in a Seveso-classified company

The firefighters were alerted around midnight, during the night from Saturday to Sunday, that a fire had broken out within the “Triadis ” company, located in the industrial zone of the Haie des Cognets in Saint-Jacques- de-la-Lande. The Seveso classified site ensures the grouping, transit, sorting and pre-treatment of hazardous industrial and community waste.

Limited smoke dispersion

Around twenty firefighters were quickly mobilized to this fire, including a specialized team from the chemical risks unit. “The two fireplaces were extinguished at 3 a.m. and the clearance was carried out,” explains the prefecture in a press release this Sunday. She specifies “The absence of wind during the night limited the dispersion of the smoke which remained concentrated in the form of a vertical plume which did not reach the first homes 600 m away from the site to the east”.

Following the fire, which was believed to be due to a chemical fire, the extinguishing water was stored in retention to be analyzed and treated, as required by the procedure linked to Seveso classified sites. APAVE, specialized in risk management, should also intervene on site to carry out additional measures.
