The announcement of the drilling of new oil wells in Nonville, near Nemours in Seine-et-Marne, is causing noise. Six new associations have just announced that they are joining the protest movement, in support of Eau de Paris.
Fearing that these new wells will pollute the two drinking water catchment areas located nearby, the public establishment responsible for the withdrawal, treatment and transport of drinking water to Paris, is protesting against the authorization that the Last January, the prefecture of Seine-et-Marne granted the oil company Bridge Energies the right to drill new wells in Nonville. Eau de Paris then filed an interim suspension appeal against this decision, as explained by 'Le Nouvel Économiste'. Appeal rejected on May 17 by the Melun court, which considered that there was no emergency situation.
“Voluntary interventions”
But as the case has not yet been judged on the merits, six associations announced, by press release on October 24, their support for Eau de Paris. Friends of the Earth France, Notre Affaire à Tous, France Nature Environnement Ile-de-France, the Climate Action Network, Reclaim Finance, as well as France Nature Environnement Seine-et-Marne “have submitted two voluntary interventions in support of the appeal initiated by Eau de Paris against the prefectural decree”, on October 13. Voluntary intervention allows a natural or legal person (defense association, union, etc.) to join a legal proceeding in which they are neither a party nor accused, with a view to supporting the conclusions of one of the parties. .
Eau de Paris fears that these new wells will pollute the two drinking water catchment areas located nearby.
On September 21, Philippe Pont, the president of the oil company, declared to the site actu.fr that Bridge Energies had “made a commitment to the administration not to drill while awaiting the decision of the administrative court on the merits , which will only take place in the first half of 2025”.
