130,000 demonstrators denounce “the bad governance of irresponsible people” in Valencia

The anger and exasperation of nearly 130,000 people erupted this Saturday evening in the town hall square in Valencia, Spain, more than a week after the deadly floods which affected the region.

A cry from the heart. This Saturday, November 9, more than 130,000 people gathered in Valencia to protest against “the bad governance of irresponsible people” during the floods in Spain.

Everyone denounced with one voice the disastrous management of the torrential rains which cost the lives of at least 220 people.

“We must put an end to the bad governance of the irresponsible and the shameful. It is shameful that Carlos Mazón (the president of the Valencia region, editor’s note) once again sullies the name of our country. This makes me nauseous, the people do not deserve this,” Adria Jaén Cuenca, a Spanish linguist present at the demonstration, told CNEWS.

An observation shared by Pedro Diaz, railway technician for the Valencia government: “My colleagues were caught off guard, without prior warning in the afternoon while trains were running throughout the entire Valencia metro network. The cars were full of people.

One slogan in particular became the rallying cry of all these demonstrators: “Only the people save the people.” For the thousands of people gathered this Saturday, residents of the disaster areas could only count on the solidarity of their neighbors to survive.

In their eyes, the regional government of Valencia has not been up to the task: “We demand the resignation of President Carlos Mazón who left people abandoned while they were drowning, without issuing a warning and without do nothing for them. It’s incredible,” testified Rosa, a retiree, also present among the 130,000 demonstrators gathered in Valencia.

More than a week after the floods which hit the region, the authorities are continuing their search operations for the missing. Dozens of people are still missing and the toll could rise further.
