Drivers will see their bill increase by around 40 euros.

has more than 40 million motorists, and all of them will be impacted by a new expense. The latter is linked to the increase in the price of all insurance expected in 2025. We already know that home insurance will experience a sharp increase from next year. The year 2023 had already seen home insurance increase by 5%, followed by a more marked increase of 7.2% in 2024. In 2025, forecasts from the Facts & Figures firm announce an even more significant increase, of between 10 and 12%, which can even reach 15% for individual houses and detached houses.

However, in this context of generalized inflation, automobile insurance is not spared. This increase will affect the millions of vehicles insured in France, knowing that car insurance is a legal obligation for all vehicle owners. In 2024, car insurance has already seen a significant increase. In question, “the 8.5% increase in vehicle repair costs”, indicates France Assureurs. This trend is explained in particular by the constant increase in the price of spare parts and vehicles in general, recalls Nahdir Baba Arbi, consultant at Addactis.

In 2025, experts therefore predict a further rebound in car insurance contract prices. The latter should see their cost increase between 4 and 6%. This increase can be explained by several factors. Firstly, inflation in repair costs continues to weigh heavily, with an average increase in the price of spare parts particularly marked. The Facts & Figures firm, for example, notes an 8.9% increase in the price of mirrors, even reaching 14.3% for high-end vehicles.

Labor costs also contribute to this inflationary trend, with an increase of 6.6% in 2023, followed by an additional increase of 5.8% over the last twelve months until July 2024. This is in addition to a government decision: the State will increase the “natural disasters” contribution from 6 to 9% on January 1, 2025.

This generalized inflation of car insurance costs will significantly impact the budget of French households, who already spend on average 634 euros per year on their car insurance. From 2025, they will have to pay 672 euros, or an additional 38 euros. This amount varies depending on the level of protection chosen: third-party insurance will cost on average 568 euros, intermediate insurance 664 euros, while the price of comprehensive insurance will amount to 816 euros annually, on average.

Whether electric or thermal vehicles, recent cars are particularly affected by these increases, their insurance costs generally being higher due to their higher value and their more sophisticated technological components.
