Virginie Martin wanted to pay homage to nature by painting, through her eyes and her imagination, the lights, water, mist and flowers that she appreciates so much. For her new canvases, she used acrylic paint and worked the materials using gesso (primer reducing the absorption of paint on the support), baking soda, coffee grounds and aluminum foil on different layers of paint.

Virginie Martin defines herself as a self-taught painter. For as long as she can remember, she has always created universes, through drawing and painting, drawing inspiration from the nature she loved to contemplate. “Following a personal tragedy that occurred in 1999, I started painting to occupy my sleepless nights and cling to life,” she explains, “then the confinement in 2020 made me decide to make my passion my main activity. The artist discovered the medieval city in 2018 during a pilgrimage on the way to Santiago de Compostela. She took shelter during a storm at the musical café Le Puits de jour and, enchanted by this cultural place, she decided to put her backpack there. She was thus able to discover the works of Jacques and Mireille Buchholtz, ceramist and painter, who have now passed away. She underlines: “I have the privilege and the joy of living in a house imbued with their energies and of being surrounded by artists, painters, sculptors, musicians, singers and poets. In addition, Lauzerte, with its history, its old stones, its light and the colors of its landscape give me more inspiration every day.”

Free entry during opening hours. Until Sunday December 1st. Not to be missed.
