In a thrilling match that lasted more than two hours, Bianca Andreescu won in three sets of 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3) against Naomi Osaka, Friday in the quarter-final of the Bois tournament -le-Duc, in the Netherlands.

This victory was, however, difficult to achieve, as demonstrated by the third and final set of the match. Andreescu, up 5-2, could have made it easier for herself, but never managed to give herself the opportunity for a match point. She would have had to wait until the tiebreaker for her chance, and she took full advantage of it to advance to the semi-final.

The game was stopped due to rain in the first set, with the Canadian trailing 2-1. She then won five of the next seven games to take the set. Dominated on serve (seven aces against three), Andreescu stood out on her first serve (75% of the points won in this area), in addition to saving three break points and converting as many.

Osaka, 26, reached No. 1 in the WTA rankings in 2019 and has won four Grand Slam tournaments. She now occupies the 125th level.

In the next round, Andreescu will face Hungarian Dalma Galfi.

End of course for Raonic

The day after a three-set battle won against Roberto Bautista Agut, Milos Raonic this time lost to first seed Alex de Minaur in two sets of 7-5 and 6-2.

Like Andreescu, Raonic also saw his match interrupted by bad weather, which did not work in his favor. When activities stopped, the Canadian led the first set 4-3. However, de Minaur took charge afterward, even if he had a little scare in the second set when Raonic led 2-1.

The Canadian was dominant in several aspects of the game, particularly in serving. He managed eight aces, compared to only three for his rival of the day. What’s more, the 197th racket in the world also amassed 76% of his points on his first serve, but it was on his second service opportunities that he had more difficulty (24%).
