Wolverhampton won their first Premier League match of the season this Saturday. Gary O'Neil's team beat Southampton 2 goals to 0.
Wolverhampton, fourteenth last season, obtained their first victory of the season on Saturday against bottom side Southampton (2-0), during the 11th day of the Premier League. Goals from Pablo Sarabia (2nd) and Matheus Cunha (51st) relieved coach Gary O'Neil, still in a relegation position but finally credited with a first success in a very bad start to the season.
The “Wolves” are 18th with six points, one less than Crystal Palace (17th, 7 pts), the first non-relegation team, beaten 2-0 on Saturday at home by Fulham. Promoted Southampton, winners of Everton last weekend, remain stuck in last place with only four points collected after 11 days. Everything is going well, however, for Fulham, sixth after securing a fifth victory in the league. The Londoners crushed Palace, deprived of eight players (injuries and suspension) and reduced to ten in the second half.
Brentford came back twice and ended up taming Bournemouth (3-2), thanks in particular to a double from Yoane Wissa. In the other match of the afternoon, West Ham did no better than a 0-0 draw against Everton, the 16th. Julen Lopetegui's team, very active this summer on the transfer market, stagnates in 14th place.
