The crazy votes for the 2024 Ballon d’or

At the end of October, the 2024 Ballon d’Or was awarded for the 68th time. A ceremony which saw Rodri succeed Lionel Messi.

And if we already knew that some voters had returned a surprising ranking, the publication by of the complete voting results allows us to realize that the vote was far from being the same for everyone.

A minimal difference

After 99 votes, Rodri and Vinicius came in just 41 points apart. The Spaniard came in first place in 49 votes, compared to 35 for Vinicius. Although voters were fairly divided, some opted for neither.

Thus, we note that the Argentine and Ecuadorian voters decided to award first place to Toni Kroos, who comes ahead of Rodri and Vinicius for the first, ahead of Vinicius and Nico Williams for the second. Brilliant with Real at the end of the season, the German came ninth in the final ranking.

Lookman and Xhaka in the lead

Among the more surprising rankings, we find that of the South Korean voter, who placed Erling Haaland in the lead even though Norway did not do so. For South Korea, Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé complete the podium.

And if the vote in Trinidad and Tobago saw Lautaro Martinez come out on top, the most surprising vote will undoubtedly be that of the Nigerian voter, who was one of the most chauvinistic by placing Ademola Lookman at the top of the ranking. Author of a hat-trick in the Europa League final, his first place is not entirely surprising.

Note that the Japanese placed Granit Xhaka at the top of her vote. The Swiss midfielder who finished in sixteenth place in the Ballon d’Or final.
