Two weeks after Rodri’s Ballon d’Or victory, we finally know the detailed results of this 2024 edition, published by France Football. A first observation is essential, it was very little between Rodri and his runner-up Vinicius Jr. Only 41 points separate the two men, which may leave even greater regrets for the Brazilian, absent during the handover of the trophy at the Théâtre du Châtelet, like the entire Real Madrid delegation. As a reminder, the jury was made up of specialist journalists, one representative per country from the top 100 nations in the FIFA rankings. Only the Syrian representative did not vote. There were therefore 99 votes cast.

Voters had to elect 10 players (distributing a scale of points, 15, 12, 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points) with three criteria. The first: individual performances, decisive and impressive character. The second: collective performances and the prize list. And the third: class and fair play. Suffice to say that it is probably on this last criterion that the first two in the ranking were decided, Vinicius Jr being regularly at the heart of criticism concerning his provocative behavior on the pitch. Rodri was mentioned 94 times among the voters but he was above all placed at the top of the top 10 by 49 journalists, compared to 35 in favor of the Brazilian.
The podium stands out from the rest
The latter still ended up in the lead for the French journalist for example. According to the vote of Vincent Garcia of France Footballhe is ahead of Rodri, Bellingham, Mbappé and Yamal. The third in this ranking also stands out from the others. Jude Bellingham is certainly 253 points behind Rodri and 212 behind his teammate at Real Madrid, he has also widened a huge gap on his closest pursuer, Dani Carvajal, by 367 units. For example, the Englishman is cited at the top of the votes by Scotland, Georgia, Slovenia, El Salvador and Namibia. Carvajal finished first in Angola, Oman, Hungary and Peru.

It is also interesting to see the votes by country among the favorites for this 2024 Ballon d’Or. The Spanish representative, Alfredo Relano of AS, The Country and the Chain Beingdid not preach for his parish by placing Vinicius Jr as first choice, then Rodri and Bellingham. Conversely, his colleague in Brazil, Cleber Machado of SBT et Amazon Prime Videopreferred to vote in favor of his compatriot Vinicius whom he placed ahead of Rodri then Bellingham. Finally, with the Englishman Henry Wilter of World Soccerwe chose Rodri as number one, then Vinicius and Bellingham as third choices.
