The native of Rosario had to be substituted in the second half during the match against Tottenham.
Argentine footballer Mauro Icardi suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus on Thursday during Galatasaray’s 3-2 defeat to Tottenham in the fourth round of the Europa League.
The striker suffered the injury shortly before the end of the match, precisely in the 37th minute of the second half, prompting the medical staff to enter the field and replace the striker with Turkish player Berkan Kutlu.
Galatasaray announced that the player suffered a torn ACL and meniscus: “MRI scans carried out at our partner hospital, Medicana, revealed a rupture and meniscal damage to the anterior cruciate ligament of our player Mauro Icardi, injured during the match against Tottenham in week four of the UEFA Europa League.”

“Our player’s pre-operative rehabilitation has begun, and an operation is planned,” the club concluded.
It is estimated that the former Inter Milan star could be sidelined for eight months.
Via his Instagram account, the striker confirmed the news following medical examinations: “Hello, after undergoing tests this morning, the worst news has been confirmed: cruciate ligament and meniscus tears. I will be out for a few month, but with a smile, working hard to come back stronger. I wish my teammates and the whole Galatasaray family a season full of success and achievements.
“Thank you to everyone who showed concern and support during this time. A kiss to everyone, and I will be back soon,” concluded the Rosario native.
In recent days, rumors have circulated suggesting that Icardi could join River Plate, with sources close to the player claiming that the 31-year-old wants to be with Wanda Nara and her daughters.
