While there are different ways of heating for an individual, what they have in common is that their price varies for different reasons. A quick overview of the five main ways to heat yourself.

The gas

The 1is September 2024, natural gas prices increased from 130.21 to 137.2 euros per megawatt hour, an increase of 5.37%. But, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), this price is expected to fall in 2025, due to increased supplies from the United States and Qatar.

Firewood

The average price of a stere of wood in 2024 was between 89 and 115 euros. An increase of around 25% over one year is expected for the stere. For 2025, it is likely that this price will increase slightly, due to the increase in the costs of producing and transporting wood. In general, prices can vary between 95 and 125 euros, depending on the type of wood and the packaging. In a context of rising prices observed in recent years, the average cost of a cubic meter of firewood in 2025 is expected to be between 90 and 130 euros. For the hardwood between 70 and 130 euros per stere. Softwoodon average, 60 to 100 euros per stere. Densified logs, almost 450 euros for the complete palette. Grants available : bonuses for the purchase of firewood. In 2025, wood as heating energy will remain the most economical in 2025 but be careful of price increases in the event of high demand.

The pellet

The wood pellet market is also experiencing strong development. In 2024, the price of a ton of pellets will be between 350 and 400 euros. In 2025, the price of a tonne of wood pellets should oscillate between 350 and 450 euros. Pellets are often more convenient to store and use, offering clean and efficient combustion.

Electricity

The 1is August 2024, the government refused the planned increase in electricity prices of 1%, an increase due to the increase in the TURPE (Public Electricity Network Use Tariff) of 4.8%. Consumers can now benefit from another piece of good news confirmed by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) and the Government: the regulated electricity prices proposed by EDF will ultimately fall by 9% on 1is February 2025. The government thus ruled on this reduction as part of the draft budget for 2025. It must in reality raise a tax on electricity called excise which will increase from 21 to 32.44 euros per MWh. In fact, the tax increase will somehow be absorbed into the overall drop in electricity prices.

Fuel oil

Fuel oil remains a very popular energy source used by many households for heating. This Monday, November 4, according to the Fioulmarket website, the price of fuel oil is down slightly, to 1,102 euros per 1,000 liters. If a clear trend seems to emerge from these weeks preceding the winter heating season, caution remains in order: after two days of decline, oil experienced three days of increase, driven in particular by geopolitical tensions. Compared to the week of this beginning of November 2024the price of fuel oil experienced a small drop of 1 euro this November 4 (which follows a drop of 6 euros over the previous period). Thus, after being displayed at 1,103 euros on October 28, it fell this Monday to 1,102 euros. And this, despite a very mixed week on the oil market.
