New turning point in this case taken up by the “cold cases” center of Nanterre. A 28-year-old man has been indicted for the murder of a woman in her seventies. The victim was beaten at her home in Draguignan (Var) on January 12, 2014, without any culprit being named, reports Var Morning Monday June 10, 2024.

The man was already one of the suspects at the time of the murder. He was taken into custody, but no evidence could support the police’s doubts. He was therefore released, until the Office for the Repression of Violence against Persons of the Judicial Police (OCRVB), the Toulon PJ and a magistrate from the Nanterre unresolved cases center resumed the investigation. .

DNA at the heart of this judicial turning point

A new DNA analysis on the seals proved that the young man was indeed at the scene of the crime, explains RTL . At the time, his DNA was taken to compare to that found on the victim’s body, but that test was inconclusive. A friend also provided him with an alibi.

However, this friend retracted his statements and said he no longer remembered the day of the murder. For his part, the suspect continues to deny the facts and remains very vague regarding the course of his day on January 12, 2014. The motive behind the events is not yet known, although the hypothesis of a dispute is favored.
